Surah al Qamar (The Moon)

Surah 54. Surah al Qamar (The Moon)
Bismillah ir Rahman ir Raheem In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
  1. The Moment has drawn near,
    And the moon is split.
  2. And if they see a Sign, they excuse themselves,
And they say: “(This is) recurring magic (of old)”,
  3. And they deny it,
And they follow their (own) desires,
And every directed energy (action) becomes manifest (reveals its secret)
  4. And verily, there have come to them tidings
    In which there are forewarnings—
  5. Mature (proven) wisdom—
But the forewarnings benefitted them not.
  6. So turn away from them.
The day when the Caller will call
    Towards an awful Event,
  7. Their sights lowered,
They will come forth from their graves,
As if they are locusts, scattered,
  8. Rushing in a stampede towards the Caller,
    The disbelievers will say:
    “This is a grueling Day.”
  9. The people of Noah disbelieved in earlier times,
And they gave the lie to Our Messenger,
And they said: “(He is) a madman,”
    And he was threatened.
  10. Then he called out to his Rabb:
    “I am overwhelmed,
    So help me!”
  11. So We opened up the gates from the heavens
    With torrential rains,
  12. And We gushed forth springs from the earth.
    Then the waters met
For a task that had been ordained.
  13. And We put him aboard (the Ark)
Whose type (of construction) was wooden planks and stakes—
  14. It floated, (watched) by Our eyes;
(Such was) a recompense (for those) who had disbelieved.
  15. And behold! We left it as a Sign.
So, is there any who will take heed?
  16. Then, how (terrible) was My punishment
And (the consequence of not heeding ) My warning?
  17. And verily, We have made the Qur’an easy to remember,
So, is there any who will take heed?
  18. And the A’d disbelieved.
Then, how (terrible) was My punishment
And (the consequence of not heeding )My warning?
  19. Indeed, We sent upon them gale force winds,
    On a Day of unending calamity;
  20. It threw up people,
As if they were uprooted trunks of palm trees.
  21. Then, how (terrible) was My punishment
And (the consequence of not heeding) My warning?
  22. And verily, We have made the Qur’an easy to remember,
So, is there any who will take heed?
  23. And the Thamud disbelieved the Warners,
  24. And they said:
“Are we to believe a man among us and follow him?
In which case, we would indeed be misled, and out of our minds.
  25. What? The Reminder has been revealed to him (who is) one among us?
No! He is a self-serving liar!”
  26. “Soon shall they know— tomorrow,
    Who is the self-serving liar.
  27. Indeed, We shall send a she-camel
    As a test upon them,
So watch them and be patient. “
  28. And they were informed
    That the water had been divided between them;
Each one should take turns drinking it.
  29. Then they called their companion,
    And he hamstrung her.
  30. Then, how (terrible) was My punishment
And (the consequence of not heeding ) My warning?
  31. Indeed, We sent upon them a single blast,
And they were like dried stubble.
  32. And verily, We made the Qur’an easy to remember,
Then, is there any who will take heed?
  33. The people of Lot rejected the Warners.
  34. Indeed, We sent upon them a hail of brimstones,
Except on the household of Lot—
We rescued them by the morning
  35. By Our grace—
That is how We reward those who give thanks.
  36. And verily, We warned them of Our unshakeable grip,
But they wrangled over the warnings.
  37. And verily they wanted to snatch his guests,
So We closed their eyes (annihilated them), (declaring):
“So taste Our punishment and (the consequence of disregarding) Our warnings.”
  38. And verily, the decreed punishment overtook them by the dawn (affirming):
  39. “So taste Our punishment and (the consequence of disregarding) Our warning.”
  40. And verily, We have made the Qur’an easy to remember,
Then, is there any who will take heed?
  41. And behold! To the people of the Pharaoh came Our Warners.
  42. They rejected all of Our Signs,
    So We seized them—
A seizure from the Mighty, the Owner of all decrees.
  43. Are the disbelievers among you any better than them?
Or, is there an immunity for you in the ancient Books?
  44. Or do they say: “We are a group capable of defending ourselves?”
  45. Soon will their group be defeated and they will turn on their backs.
  46. No! The Moment is promised for them,
And the Moment is hard and bitter.
  47. Indeed, the culpable are in error and in ignorance.
  48. The Day when they will be dragged into the Fire with their existence,
(It will be said to them): “Taste the touch of Fire!”
  49. Indeed, We have created everything in its due proportion,
  50. And Our command is not but a single blink of an eye.
  51. And verily, We have destroyed the likes of you,
Then, is there one who will take heed?
  52. And everything they did is in the ancient Books,
  53. And everything small or large is documented.
  54. Indeed, for those who are conscious of Allah,
    There are Gardens and Springs,
  55. In the Abode of Truth,
    From the Sovereign,
    The Owner of all decrees.
